For years, I have been wanting to visit Nepal and see some of the highest mountains of the world close-up. Since childhood I have been an avid reader of mountaineering books, including Reinhold Messner's. I also attended one of his slide presentations in the early 80's through which he raised money for his expeditions. While I never had the desire to actually climb on of these mountains, I always wanted to go to the Himalayas and see the beautiful scenery first hand. Finally, at the age of 44, I had the time to do this.
I booked a guide through Adventure Thirdpole and was very pleased with the services I got from that company. Also, I found the guidebook "Trekking in the Everest Region" by Jamie McGuiness as very handy and informative.
